Lawrence Free State Firebirds Varsity Beats Lawrence In Low-Scoring City Showdown
Both teams were strong on the pitcher’s mound Friday, but Lawrence Free State defeated Lawrence 3-1. Lawrence Free State pitchers allowed just five hits to Lawrence.
Lawrence Free State got things moving in the first inning, when Peyton Sparks singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Ethan Bradford earned the victory on the mound for Lawrence Free State. He allowed three hits and one run over four innings, striking out six. Cam Karlin threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Karlin recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for Lawrence Free State Firebirds Varsity.
Cleavinger took the loss for Lawrence. He lasted one inning, allowing three hits and three runs while walking one.
Mitchell Clark, Jake Baker, Colter Maldonado, Sparks, and Karlin each managed one hit to lead Lawrence Free State. The Firebirds were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error.
Lawrence racked up five hits. Neal and . Dobson each collected multiple hits for Lawrence.
