Two Pitchers Work Together As Lawrence Free State Shuts Out Turner
Lawrence Free State defeated Turner 10-0 on Thursday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Jake Zenger struck out Jackson Conner to finish off the game.
Lawrence Free State tallied five runs in the third inning. The Firebirds big bats were led by Jake Baker, Peyton Sparks, and Daniel Kufahl, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
A single by Nate Deckard in the second inning was a positive for Turner.
Cam Karlin earned the win for Lawrence Free State. He allowed three hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out five and walking zero. Zenger threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Deckard took the loss for Turner. He lasted three and a third innings, allowing six hits and seven runs while striking out three.
Lawrence Free State racked up ten hits in the game. Creighton Cordova, Mitchell Clark, and Baker each racked up multiple hits for the Firebirds. Clark and Cordova all had three hits to lead Lawrence Free State. Lawrence Free State was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error.
